Barbara Tartar Obituary

Barbara K. Tartar, 84, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Aperion Care Peru. She was born November 6, 1940, in Lafayette, to the late Irvin and Minnie (Washburn) Tartar. She was a 1958 graduate of Boswell High School and continued her education at Danville Nursing School earning her Registered Nurse Certification in 1960. She worked at several hospitals in the local area, before relocating to a nursing position in Tucson, AZ. She later moved to Phoenix, AZ, to work at the Arizona Heart Institute. She was truly proud of the work she did at the Heart Institute and loved to tell stories about her time there. In 1983, Barbara moved home to Boswell to help take care of her mother. She held nursing positions at Watseka, Brook, and Lafayette hospitals over the next several years. She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She also enjoyed working on crossword puzzles. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Richard Happ of West Lafayette, one niece, Lee Ann Happ of West Lafayette, two nephews, Kevin Happ of West Lafayette, and Gary (Kelly) Happ of Fowler, and two great-nephews Alan Happ of Brownsburg, and Kyle (Amanda) Happ of Indianapolis. Along with her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Tartar, and her sister, Elizabeth (Betty Jo Tartar) Happ. The family would like to especially thank Donna Hollingsworth, Kathy McFall, and Debbie Wesley for the excellent care and friendship they gave Barbara until her care was turned over to Senior and Adult Guardianship Advocates (SAGA). Also special thanks to the staff at Aperion Care Peru for the excellent care they provided Barbara over the last few years. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2025, at Soller-Baker West Lafayette Chapel, 1184 Sagamore Parkway West in West Lafayette. Interment will follow at Boswell Cemetery, 2454 W. State Road 352, Boswell, IN.
