James Harris Obituary

James (Jim) Marvin Harris, 87

James (Jim), 87, passed away on January 1, 2025, at Mineral Community Hospital.

Jim was born on November 23, 1937, to Vane and Anna Harris in Loveland, Colorado. He was the third of five children. In December 1949, Jim and his father, Vane, moved to Sagle, Idaho, where the rest of the family later joined them on the family farm. After graduating from Sandpoint High School, Jim joined the National Guard.

In May 1962, Jim met his wife, Phil. They were married in June after knowing each other for just one month. The couple first moved to Thompson Falls, Montana, and in 1963, they settled in Superior, Montana, where they both spent the remainder of their lives. They were married for 40 years until Phil's passing in 2002. Together, they had three children: Gail, Bonnie, and Jimmy.

Jim owned and operated 2J's Logging Company, earning Jim the nickname "2J." He logged for over 30 years, and upon retiring from logging, he became a pawnbroker. He opened 2J's Trading, where he enjoyed collecting gadgets and vehicles of all kinds.

Jim was an avid sports enthusiast who could almost always be found watching a football game, even if he had already seen it. He loved following his grandchildren's athletic activities and took pride in their achievements. He also had a passion for cooking, often improvising recipes to create unique dishes. Jim could often be found at Durango's enjoying a cup of coffee in the mornings, and in the afternoons, he could be found at Happy Hour savoring a cold beer always surrounded by friends. Above all, he cherished his family and the many friends he made throughout his life.

He will be remembered for his big smile, booming laugh, generous heart, and his willingness to help anyone who came to him.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Gail Bailey (Mike) of Superior; his daughter, Bonnie Nagy (Rick) of Arlee; his son, Jimmy Harris (JoAnn) of St. Regis; his brothers, Roger Harris (Sharon) and John Harris; his grandchildren, Brittney Gardner (Sam), Jessica Nagy, Cody Nagy (Sarah), Kelci Bailey, Travis Harris, Colt Nagy, and Trevor Bailey; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Vane Harris; his wife, Philomena; his son-in-law, Gary; his brother, Dick; and his sister, Marjorie.

To honor Jim's wishes, there will be no formal service. His ashes will be scattered in a beloved place.
