Richard Andrews Obituary

Richard E Andrews

May 19, 1959 - November 9, 2023

Columbia, South Carolina - Richard E. Andrews ended his battle with cancer and was made whole by his Savior in Heaven on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at age 64. He was the son of late William "Wick" & Margaret Manning Andrews and is survived by his children and his fiancé. They include Catherine & Dr. Michael Corso, William "Wick" Andrews III, John Andrews, and Catherine "Cathy" Bolding. He is also survived by his four siblings: John, Will, Ned, & Maggie, and their families as well as his step-mother Martha Andrews and step-sisters Robin and Elizabeth and their families.

He graduated in 1981 from Clemson University with a degree in Construction Science, where he became a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the Blue Key Society, and Tiger Brotherhood, and earned a position on the Varsity Cheerleading team. He left a lasting mark on SC through a career in construction which spanned four decades and included a variety of residential and commercial projects - most notably the Columbia Metropolitan Airport and the Renaissance on Charleston Harbor, for which he was proud. He was a member of Shandon UMC for 30 years, where he served on the property committee and was a member of the Genesis Sunday school class and a girls' youth basketball coach. Richard loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, waterskiing, camping, and spending time appreciating nature. He never knew a stranger, enjoyed chatting with everyone he could, and was known for helping anyone in need of assistance. Richard will be dearly missed by friends from all stages of life and will be remembered for his huge smile, infectious laugh, and unwavering optimism & joy for life.

A service in celebration of Richard's life will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 3:00pm with a reception to follow, both at Shandon United Methodist Church (3407 Devine St. Columbia, SC).

Dear Cathy and entire Andrews family, please accept my heartfelt condolences for your loss. Though I rejoice as well that he is whole again and in Heaven with our Heavenly Father, I know how much he loved his family and you loved him and how very much he will be missed. I met Richard through Coach James and Curesearch's Ultimate Hike and always enjoyed shared the trail with Richard. He was always smiling...ever the gentleman... a joy to be around...even during the challenging sections of the hike...that was Richard. So, I am confident that Richard continued to demonstrate those same qualitites as he fought his hardest battle with cancer. And he had quite the supportive team in each of you. Bless you. May the Good Lord continue to Guide and Comfort you in the days ahead. Love and prayers continue.

This is a great line from the obituary above: "Richard will be dearly missed by friends from all stages of life and will be remembered for his huge smile, infectious laugh, and unwavering optimism & joy for life." Yes, that is Richard!

I have always felt it was a privilege to be his friend. We will miss him.
