Beverly Sweet Obituary

Beverly A. "Bev" Sweet, 74, of Solon passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024, at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Graveside services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon are in charge of arrangements. Beverly Ann Sweet was born April 2, 1949, in Iowa City, the middle daughter of Kenneth and Gladys (Karel) Sweet. Growing up in Solon, she attended schools there, graduating from Solon High School. Bev married Thomas "Tom" Lemke on June 24, 1975, but decided to keep her maiden name "Sweet". "Sweet" was who she was, always smiling, always willing to help, and always caring for someone else. She was very passionate about many things; people, flowers and animals being her favorites. Bev began her career in 1968 at the University of Iowa School of Social Work. She earned her BA in English from the University of Iowa in 1998, while working full time. During her career of 47 years, she had a big hand in admissions and student relations, shepherding 6,228 graduates through the School of Social Work. Bev retired in 2015. She spent her retirement gardening in her yard in her hometown of Solon. Bev is survived by a niece and nephew, Kimberly Allen, and Jason Evenden. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two sisters, Linda Evenden, and Paula Ludwig. Memorials may be directed to the family.
