Sheri Powell Obituary

Sheri Powell passed away at home with her husband and daughter by her side on November 4, 2024.

Sheri was born on September 15, 1961 in Cheverly, MD to Laura and Henry Shoener. On October 14, 1990, she married her high school sweetheart and dashing prom date, Randy Powell. They lived in several homes together, before ultimately deciding to settle in Davidsonville, MD.

After graduating from Duval High School in 1979, Sheri spent the next several years utilizing the University of Maryland’s night program to earn her Bachelor's in Accounting. In 1993, she successfully earned the title of CPA and started her impressive career. After working for a few accounting firms, she joined forces with Matt Hetrick to form Harmony Group Inc. She worked long days and late nights to build the company from the ground up into the reputable business it is today.

An accountant to the core, she made sure to get that yearly tax cut by giving birth to her greatest accomplishment, Libby, on December 29, 2000. Even though she only had one daughter, she will be remembered as a surrogate mother to many. Those around her knew that Sheri’s door was always open, welcoming everyone in with a hot cup of coffee and a sincere conversation.

Sheri was admired first and foremost as being a fighter. During her two decade long battle with cancer, she fought to live each day to the fullest and achieve the life that she dreamed of. She never let anyone, including her diagnosis, tell her what to do. It was not uncommon to find Sheri putting miles in on her bike or admiring the mountains at some of her favorite destinations.

Sheri will be remembered for her determination and her welcoming energy. She will be severely missed by those friends that she made family, as well as anyone else who was fortunate enough to be impacted by her presence.

The family is asking in lieu of flowers, donations be made to American Cancer Society or Relay For Life. Services will be held at Mid Atlantic Community Church, 2485 Davidsonville Rd, Gambrills, MD 21054, on November 15th from 1-3 PM.
