Frank Lawyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Volk Leber Funeral Home - Oradell on Mar. 24, 2026.
Frank Cross Lawyer Jr., age 94, a man defined by his unwavering service to his country, his community, and his family, has passed away, leaving a legacy of hard work and heart. Born to the late Frank Cross Lawyer and Dorothy E. (Bachant), Frank was the devoted husband of the late Jean Irene (Hagedorn), to whom he was married for 62 years.

A proud veteran, Frank served in the United States Navy with the Seabees, embodying the "Can Do" spirit that he carried throughout his life. His professional journey was marked by a commitment to quality and community. For many years, he owned and operated Hagedorn Excavation Corp., building a reputation for integrity and skill. Following his time in the excavation business, Frank brought his work ethic to the Old Tappan Golf Course before enjoying a well-deserved retirement split between the sunshine of Holiday, Florida, and the serene shores of Wolf Lake, New York.

Frank's dedication to Old Tappan was profound, and he was deeply proud of the town where he raised his children. He was a member of the Old Tappan Ambulance Corps for over 25 years, serving with distinction as Captain for several of those years. He was also proud to serve his community as a member of the Old Tappan Board of Adjustments. His faith was equally central to his life; as a devoted member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Old Tappan, he served on the Consistory and shared his leadership and kindness as the head of the Sunday School program.

Frank's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his children: Deborah Lawyer, Cheryl (Lawyer) and her husband Doug Granger, and Greg Lawyer and his wife Kay. He was a proud grandfather to Nicole, Jeffrey, and Elizabeth Granger, and a cherished uncle to many loved nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean, as well as his sisters and brothers.

In recognition of Frank's lifelong commitment to helping others, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Old Tappan Ambulance Corps or to a charity of your choice in his name.
