Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jacqueline M. Ryan Home for Funerals Inc. on Mar. 29, 2026.
Daniel Sterling III, affectionately known as Danny, passed away on March 27, 2026, at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. He was 40 years old. Born on May 16, 1985, at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, he was raised in Howell before moving to Jackson in 1998, where he spent the remainder of his life surrounded by family and friends who knew and loved him.
Danny was a man whose life was marked by devotion to his family, quiet strength, and the simple joys that brought him the greatest happiness. He carried himself with a steady presence and a warm spirit, and those who knew him will remember his easy smile, his loyal heart, and the way he made others feel welcome. He valued time spent with the people closest to him, and his life was deeply rooted in the bonds he shared with his father, his sister, his nephews, and extended family.
He especially loved going hunting and fishing with his dad and nephews, and those times remained among his most treasured memories. Danny found great joy in the outdoors, where he could enjoy good company, peaceful moments, and the traditions he shared with the people he loved most. He was also an avid fan of the Rangers and the Giants, and he followed both teams with enthusiasm and loyalty. Yet above all else, the greatest joy in his life was spending time playing with his nephews, Scott and Maverick, who brought him endless pride and happiness.
Danny was predeceased by his mother, Michelle Sterling; his twin sister, Sandra Sterling; his paternal grandparents, Daniel and Janet Sterling Sr.; his maternal grandparents, Richard and Concetta Volpe; and his Aunt Susan Sterling. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life, and he carried their influence with him always.
He is survived by his father, Daniel Sterling Jr. of Jackson; his sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Stephen McGowan, also of Jackson; his two nephews, Scott and Maverick McGowan; his two uncles, Michael and Richard Volpe; his aunt, Charlotte McBride; and his cousins, Richie and Joey Volpe. His family was the center of his world, and the love he gave them will continue to be felt in the lives they shared with him.
Danny will be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the time he shared so generously, and the lasting impressions he left on those fortunate enough to know him. His life was a reflection of family, loyalty, and the everyday moments that become the most meaningful over time. Though his passing leaves a deep void, the memories of his kindness, his devotion, and his presence will remain a source of comfort to all who loved him.
He will be dearly missed and forever remembered with love by his family and friends. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, April 2, 2026, from 6PM to 8PM at Jacqueline M Ryan Home for Funerals Inc. 233 Carr Avenue Keansburg. A 7:30 PM service will conclude the evening. In keeping with Danny's wishes he will be privately cremated.
