Michael S. Franzen, 56 of Durant, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at his home. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 17, 2021 from 5 to 7 PM at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Following the visitation a Celebration of Life will be held at Idle Hour Lanes in Durant. Interment will be at a later date in the Durant Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Online condolences may be left at www.bentleyfuneralhome.com.
Mike was born in Muscatine on January 6, 1965 to Dellwyn and Karen (Kirkland) Franzen. He graduated from Muscatine High School in 1983. Mike married Shelly Willroth on June 30, 1990 in New Era, IA.
Raised a farm boy, Mike worked various jobs in the Agriculture industry most of his life. Mike was an avid race fan and enjoyed helping his nephews with their stock car for many years. He was a true Hawkeye and Kansas City Chiefs fan. Mike loved hunting, fishing and recently started making his own lures. Above all, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Mike is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife Shelly, daughters, Kelsi (Cody) Bullis of Durant, Kaetlin (Logan) Carter of Davenport and Brittney (Dennis) Ingles of Durant, 5 grandchildren: Emery, Harper and Crue Bullis and Tony and Ivy Mesa, his mother Karen Franzen of Muscatine, his grandmother Mary Kirkland of Geneseo, his brother Matt (Ann) Franzen of Kelso, WA and his granddogs Henry and Ollie. He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, grandparents and his uncle.

I grew up on the Charlie Fletcher farm next to Dellwyn's grandparents, Harold and Ruby -- my father saw Dellwyn a great deal ..We didn't know Mike, but I'm sure that he was a wonderful person -- deepest sympathy to all the family.

Shelly, We just heard about your husband's sudden death. Life sure as hell isn't fair. It seems like only yesterday that we attended your wedding. We have enjoyed your pictures of a family growing up but never thought we would see the picture of Mike leaving your family at such a young age. It's just not fair to you and your family. Too often good hard working and good family folks leave us too soon. We don't get it!
