Steven Beaver Obituary

Steven Beaver

December 2, 1950 - September 20, 2023

Modesto, California - Steven Lloyd Beaver passed away at home on September 20, 2023 at the age of 72. Steve was born in Wood River, Illinois on December 2, 1950 to the late Milford Beaver and Patricia Jones.

He leaves behind his daughters, Amy (husband Steve) Peterman and Libby (husband Josh) Callahan; stepson, Kyle (wife Christy) Crow; his sister, Becky Horne and brother, Mark Beaver, and 10 grandchildren, Kaydee and Allie Peterman, Clinton, Matthew and Molly Holmes, Liam and Elijah Callahan, Shawn and Austin Crow and Lily Crow. Steve was widowed in 2001 after being married to Patricia Kay Beaver for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 19 years, Janet Susan Beaver. He also leaves behind the Alkire family, of which he was a member for more than 50 years: Leona (mother-in-law), Carla and Sandy (sisters-in-law), and Larry (brother-in-law). Many others loved and cherished Steve and will miss him greatly.

Steve moved to Manteca with his family at the age of 9 and was a proud member of the Manteca High School graduating class of 1969. In high school, he played football, basketball and baseball for the Buffaloes. Soon after graduating high school, Steve was hired as a courtesy clerk by Save Mart Supermarkets. It was during his high school years that he met Patricia Kay Alkire, and in 1971, they were married. Steve and Kay lived in Manteca when their two daughters were born. In 1977, Save Mart promoted Steve to store manager in Fresno, and he moved his family to nearby Madera for a few years. In 1983, Steve and his family were again relocated due to another promotion to the Save Mart corporate office, and they made their home in Ceres, CA, where he lived during the remainder of his life.

Steve was married to Patricia Kay Beaver for 30 years before Kay's passing in 2001 after a battle with breast cancer. Steve was an active member of the Ceres community throughout his 40 years as a Ceres resident. He and Kay were members of the Ceres High Athletic Boosters, Ceres Dolphin Swim Team parent group and Steve was a member of the Ceres High School football team's chain gang. In addition, Steve was an active member of the Ceres Lions Club beginning in 1985 and was a board member and past president of the Ceres Community Foundation from 2003 until 2018.

Steve began his career with Save Mart at the age of 19 and remained with Save Mart for over 40 years. He retired in 2010 as its Vice President of Operations and was in charge of 115 stores under the Save Mart banner.

In 2004, Steve remarried to Janet Beaver, and the two were married for 19 years until her passing in May of 2023. Steve and Janet enjoyed traveling together and spending time with their children, grandchildren and friends. Their travels included trips to such places as Hawaii, Mexico, Scotland and Ireland, Spring Training in Arizona, as well as numerous trips in their travel trailer. They often traveled with friends, and they enjoyed annual trips to Jackson with their grandchildren.

Steve was the ultimate family man. He loved hosting family and friends on holidays and special occasions. He was an avid sports fan, golfer, he played in fantasy football, NASCAR and golf leagues, and he loved the San Francisco 49ers and Giants and the Golden State Warriors. He attended as many of his grandchildren's events and sporting competitions as he possibly could. Steve was an exceptional caregiver for Janet after her Alzheimer's diagnosis prevented her from caring for herself.

Steve was loved and respected by all who knew him. His impact on family, friends, and his community will forever be treasured.

Unable to attend Steve´s celebration of life today, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt condolences to Steve´s family and share my thoughts on the incredible impact he had on my career and the lives of many others.

Steve was more than just boss to me; he was a role model and someone I looked up to with great admiration. His exceptional qualities as a leader left a lasting impression on me. He possessed an unwavering confidence that inspired us to believe in ourselves and our abilities. His fairness in handling situations and making decisions demonstrated his commitment to treating everyone with dignity and respect.

His forward-thinking approach encouraged us to think outside the box and embrace innovation. Under his leadership, we were constantly challenged to grow and improve, and he instilled in us a strong sense of accountability for our actions and results.

Trustworthiness was another characteristic that defined Steve. His integrity was unquestionable, and we knew we could rely on him to be honest, transparent, and supportive. He fostered an environment of trust within our team, creating a strong bond between us and enabling us to work together harmoniously towards our goals.

Most importantly, Steve had a leadership style that brought out the best in each of us. He motivated us to perform at our highest potential and set the bar high, not because he wanted to overpower us, but because he genuinely believed in our abilities. He had a unique way of inspiring loyalty and dedication by making us feel like valued contributors to the team's success. We never wanted to let him down, and in turn, he never failed to recognize and appreciate our efforts.

I want you to know that Steve had an immeasurable impact on my career, and I consider him the best person I have ever worked for. His leadership and guidance played a significant role in shaping my professional development and personal growth. I am forever grateful for the opportunities he provided and the belief he had in me.

Please accept my deepest sympathies once again. I cannot begin to fathom the loss you must be experiencing, but I hope that knowing how much Steve meant to those he led brings you some comfort during this difficult time. He will always be remembered as a remarkable leader, a compassionate mentor, and a genuinely exceptional human being.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
With sincere condolences

Luke Houston

Steve Beaver was a wonderful husband, father brother and friend to so many. I was very proud to call
Him my brother-in-law for over 50 years. Always helpful always happy to see and talk to you and I was always amazed at how much he loved my nieces Amy and Libby and showed them that love every day of his life. When he married my sister Kay he became a part of our family just as if he was born in to it. He was kind and funny and that just drew everyone to him. I still have a hard time believing he is gone, but his memory will live on for a long time. We will all miss you Steve and we will never forget what you meant to us

Steve was a wonderful person. He was a great father to Amy and Libby. I will always remember him on the sidelines of Ceres HS as a member of the chain gang, and for his involvement in our community and schools. May he rest in peace. Hugs, love and prayers to all members of his family.
