Claire Pickett Obituary

Claire Palmer Pickett passed away on May 30, 2022 in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born on January 13, 1935 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Vird D. and Clara Darden Palmer. After graduating from Tuscaloosa High School, she went on to graduate from Birmingham-Southern College in three years with a degree in elementary education. She was a beloved educator and taught third grade at Weatherly Elementary School in Huntsville for many years. Teaching was her calling, and she dearly loved her students. Her faith was very important to her as well, and she was a very involved member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church for many years. She enjoyed gardening, her dogs, and community activities, but her greatest joys in her life were her children, grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. Family came first to her, and she spent her life loving, serving, and pouring into others. She will be greatly missed by her family, as well as countless friends, former students and colleagues, and her caregivers at Regency Retirement Village. She is survived by her sons, John Landon Anderson of Huntsville, and Todd Palmer Anderson (Meg) of Birmingham, Alabama. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Leigh Hayes Mathews (Jason), Megan Hayes, Katie Vallely Martz (Matthew), Landon Anderson Koob (Chris), Emily Anderson, Thomas Anderson, and Griffin Anderson, as well as four great grandchildren (Ava Hayes, Hollis, and Gaines Mathews, and Palmer Martz). She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Leslie Anderson Vallely, as well as her parents. A family celebration of her life was held on June 5, 2022 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
