Stephen Gale Obituary

Stephen Robert Gale
January 10, 1950 - April 15, 2022
Former Resident of Martinez, CA
Born in Oakland, Steve was the eldest of 7 sons and 2 daughters to James and Anita Gale. He was preceded in death by his mother Anita in 2007. Born on his father's 18th birthday, Steve held a special position in the family. He was a mentor and guardian to his 8 younger siblings. His family meant everything to him. After graduating from San Ramon High School in 1968, Steve attended SF State University and San Jose State earning degrees in History, English and Graphic Arts. In 1979 he was very successful starting his own business, Arroyo Graphic, as a photographic and printing service to local engineers and architects. He went on to teach at several local high schools including Tennyson, Del Amigo, Summit, Alhambra and Acalanes. He later worked as a CalSTRS benefits counselor at the Contra Costa County Office of Education. After retirement he remained in the bay area until recently moving to Hanford Ca to care for his father.
Steve had a creative spirit that manifested in his relationships with family, friends and business associates. At times he could be gruff, but underneath was a frustration with injustice/brokenness and his desire for perfection in an imperfect world. He was an avid reader with many interests including history, photography, baseball (Go Giants!), backpacking, camping, restoring vintage motorcycles. He enjoyed listening to Jazz, Ella and Sinatra. Steve was very intelligent, giving, funny, caring, a good listener and very supportive to his family. We were so lucky to have him as our big brother. He left us bound for a place where there are no more burdens and the perfection he sought is found. Steve is survived by his father Jim Gale, brothers Paul, Jimmy, Peter, David, John, Tim and sisters Kathy and Jeanie as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who loved him very much.
Rest in Peace Stevie. We miss you.

Hello to Steve´s family. I am so so sorry to hear about this dear person who was a beautiful friend to me since I met him at Cal State Hayward when we were both studying to be teachers. He often picked me up at my house in Danville and we drove to school together. He was also the photographer at my wedding. The only photos I have of my wedding are because of Steve. They are even more precious to me now because my husband Dave left us on April 4 this year to live the rest of his life with Jesus in heaven. I have some wonderful pictures. I would love to show you and I would love to talk with you about Steve. Please give me a call or email, my name is Candyce but he called me candy. Jeannie helped me with the graphics for my first business. Please do get in touch. 925-600-0664. Jeannie I live at the same house I did when you came over. God bless you all. My heartfelt condolences.
