Ivous Sisk Obituary

Kathern Ivous Sisk, 87, died February 22, 2024, at Crestwood Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama after a remarkable and successful life. Ivous was born in Guin, Alabama on November 18, 1936 to the late Hermon David Thompson and Minnie Lee Thompson. She attended Marion County High School before graduating from the University of North Alabama. After graduating, she worked for Auburn University as a County Extension Agent.

Ivous married Olvie Eugene "Gene" Sisk, of Huntsville, Alabama on September 1, 1960 and they spent 61 years together as life and business partners. Ivous and Gene made their residences together in Scottsboro, Huntsville, and Fulton, then in Tupelo for about 25 years where Ivous lived the last two years. Their business career consisted of radio, newspaper, and television station ownerships with operations in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Ivous was a member and important leader of the International GWFC (General Women's Federation Club). She traveled extensively, visiting seven continents and over 50 countries. Ivous worked with the Tupelo Police helping to rescue women from abusive situations and was one year nominated as one of the best-dressed women in Mississippi.

Ivous is survived by a niece, Sandra (Sandy) Thompson Love of Memphis, Tennessee, and three nephews, Darrell Glenn Webster (Connie) of Huntsville, Alabama, Mark Webster (Gena) of Dothan, Alabama and Phillip Thompson (Sara) of Jacksonville, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2022, Olvie Eugene Sisk; her parents, Minnie and Hermon Thompson, and her brother Dwight Thompson.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024 at 2 PM at Valhalla Memory Gardens, 698 Winchester Road NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Valhalla Funeral Home is honored to serve the Sisk family.
