Thomas Veldman Obituary
Thomas was born in Schenectady, N.Y. to Henry and Ann (Mizenko) Veldman. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Arts from S.U.N.Y. Oswego and a Master's Degree in Education from S.U.N.Y. Albany. Tom cherished his time as a Laker in Oswego, where he made lifelong friends. He worked at the Hoosick Falls Central School for 34 years as an Industrial Arts and Technology teacher and prided himself on his programs that provided students with a strong foundation to enter trades or apprenticeships in manufacturing. Today, when you hire a top-notch tradesman in the Hoosick Falls area, you are likely engaging one of Tom's former students.
Tom loved winter sports, played ice hockey as a young man and was an avid skier. He was often found in his free time on the slopes of one of the local ski areas with friends. He also loved fishing trips to Alaska with his brother and buddies, swimming at Great Sacandaga Lake, and good meals. Tom's friends would describe him as someone with a quick wit and someone that never let them down.
Tom is predeceased by his parents and survived by a brother, John, his wife Rebecca, and their son and daughter, Stephen Veldman and Amanda (Veldman) Doyle.
A service followed by visitation with family will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY. Friends and former students are encouraged to attend. Interment will be held privately.

I remember both of you when I was a young kid staying at your parents camp at the lake and listening to your parents talk of how proud they were of both of you..,

Years and years ago, Tom as driver, Mary Lou Davendonis, and I traveled many a winter Friday night to ski at Jiminy Peak. Tom patiently helped me a lot with my skiing. When I told a friend this, she said, "He's a born teacher." Thanks, Tom.

So sorry to hear of "Mr Veldman's" passing. For his family I hope that there are many happy memories for you to look back upon and smile, what a great teacher. I was fortunate to be in his shop class and have so many pleasant memories. His sincere interest in how his students were progressing was evident daily. We would good naturedly take his grade sheets come report card time. He just smiled and said I know what you got. I can still hear him saying, "Okay, who threw it?". He taught by curriculum and example, and his students were better folks because of it. Sleep well my friend, rest in peace . JJ Kulas Class of "75"

Tom taught many young men how to work in a machine shop in his years at HFCS, The skills that they learned in his classes helped them find good jobs.
After he retired, I think the shop became a weight lifting room. Bad Idea.

Tom and I had many conversations over the years at Hoosick Falls. Since we both graduated from Oswego it was something we were proud of. My Condolences to his family.

I am so sorry to hear about Tom´s passing. Much too young to leave our world. My best memories of Tom are at the great sacandaga lake, and family dinners at grandmas and grandpas house. RIP cousin Tom.
