Maxine Griffin Obituary

Maxine Elizabeth Griffin passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones on Monday April 25, 2022.

Maxine was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 13, 1933, as the first child to Maxie and Helen-Brown Smith. She and her two brothers, Robert Smith and Charles Smith, were raised in the Chicago Bronzeville community where they attended St. Elizabeth Elementary and DuSable High schools. Maxine married Charles Griffin in 1950 and raised four children, Clarence, Gladys, JoAnn and Rochelle. In 1975 Maxine became a Food Service Manager for the Chicago Public Schools where she worked until her retirement in the year 2000.

Maxine is survived by her brother Robert Smith (wife Laine); son Clarence Griffin (wife Peggy), daughters Gladys Griffin and Rochelle Cole Hamilton; grandchildren Kimberly Price (husband Anthony), Clarence M. Griffin, Lil Clarence Griffin, Sharence Griffin Adams and Melissa J. Griffin. She was also the proud great-grandmother to Anthony L. Price, Julian J. Price, Breland I. Price, Yazaiah Griffin, Egypt Griffin, Isaiah Griffin, Zayza Egypt Griffin, Zyone Griffin, Zia Griffin, Zaramas Griffin, and Zeiban Griffin.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Smith and her beloved daughter JoAnn Griffin who passed away in 2017.

As per Maxine's request, no public funeral service will be held. Maxine was beloved by all. She was a wonderful mother who had a loving and generous spirit. Maxine Griffin will remain in our hearts forever.
