Dear Rachael and Family,

I'm saddened to hear of Ian's passing. In the time I knew Ian and Rachael, I was overwhelmed by the generosity and care in helping to create a foundation for arts and culture to flourish in Nelson. During 2006-2009 Ian and Rachael helped to fund the Nelson Tasman Summer Shakespeare Season, establishing it as an iconic community event in it's time. Out of this they provided the lion share of funds to establish Nelsons Independent Theater and Arts Centre, which over 3 years produced over 30 stage productions, 40 art exhibitions, 200 independent cinema screenings and more. Many young actors, directors and producers that work around New Zealand and the world are a direct result of the Stringers investment and support. That support helped the establishment of independent professional theatre and arts to flourish in the region and provided me personally with the biggest opportunity of my life. I will be forever grateful to the Stringers for their selfless giving and the whole of Nelson and beyond have benefited from it.
