Delores Thompson Obituary

Delores Jeanette Thompson affectionally known as "Jeanette", was born January 5, 1944, in Independence, Louisiana, to the late  Martha and John, Thompson, Sr.

Jeanette accepted Christ at an early age at Pipkin Chapel A.M.E. Church in Greensburg, Louisiana, and was baptized by Rev. Henry in 1959.

She moved to New Orleans and joined St. Paul Baptist Church.  She later moved to Baker, Louisiana, and joined Faith A.M.E. Zion Church under the leadership of Reverand Dr. Kenneth D. York and was an active member.  As a member of Faith A.M.E. Zion Church, she served as an Usher, on the Stewardess Board and on the Pastoral Care Team. She was dedicated and committed to her faith and her relationship with Christ.   She experienced long battles with health issues and defeated cancer three times, but it never stopped her from ambulating to the alter to profess her testimonies to the congregation. She was loved and adored by her church family so much that she was known as Mother Delores.

Jeanette graduated from St. Helena High School in 1962 and attended Delgado Community College, where she received her certification in Secretarial Studies.  She worked as a Security Officer at Walter L. Cohen in the Orleans Parish School System until retirement.

Jeanette was the mother of seven children – five daughters, Belinda Thomas of Baker, LA.; Yolanda Cain of Baton Rouge, LA; Antoinette Stewman of Geismar, LA.; Letecia Thompson of Baton Rouge, LA;  Dekeshia (Demetrius) Nicholas of Dallas, TX; two sons, Antoine Thompson of New Orleans, LA; Louis (Melonicia) Thompson of Fort Worth, TX.; seven Grandchildren; ten Great Grandchildren; five siblings, Mable Matthews, Meldia Thompson, Beatrice Thompson, Hollis Thompson, Wallace Thompson, all of Baton Rouge, LA; Arise Hitchens of Greensburg, LA. and a host of other relatives, neighbors, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Martha H. Thompson Sr., one Grandson, Julien Stewman; one sister, Anita Thompson; two brothers, Alton Thompson and John Thompson Jr.; three Sons-in-Law Roland Francis, Troy Thomas and Reginald Stewman; one niece, Kenyetta Thompson; one Brother-in-Law, Alvin Ray Matthews.

The Thompson Family along with the Management and Staff of Wilson Wooddale would like to thank you for your continued support and prayers for this family in this most difficult time.
