Winston Prattley was more than a good amn, he was a hero who saved thousands of lives.
I know this personally because he asked me to help out when Idi Amin announced the deportation of 'Asians' from Uganda in 1969. I worked alongside him as a minor assistant at the reception centre he set up in Kampala where refugees could receive aid, air tickets aand a degree of security prior to being shipped off around the world to receiving countries. Only inn the last few days has my cinnection with Lucy Fulford, who is writing an account of the Expulsions have I learned what happened to WP after Uganda - in the turmoil of the then events I completely lost track of him once I myself got out of Uganda to go to Papua New Guinea.
I have so many stories to tell of his coolness and single-handed determination to help the deportees that they cannot all be inserted here; suffice it to say, he was one of the few people I have known who warranted the tewrm 'hero'.

Winston was one of the most lovely men there was. Softly spoken and so knowledgeable about negations and giving direction. A wonderful man to just chat with which we did on many occasions. Our thoughts are with the family.

Sad to hear of Uncle Winston's passing. As a child, I always loved to hear his stories. Thoughts are with you Chris, Simon, Clare and Gregor.

So sorry to hear of Winston's passing, I enjoyed many visits to him in my role of support worker from Presbyterian Support and I regarded him very highly
