Sonja GILLIES Obituary
Aged 86. Passed away on June 15, 2025, at the Wood Retirement Village Nelson. A dearly loved mother by her children, Mark, Laurel and Scott. Much loved sister of Solveig, Selma and Carl. Loved by her grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Sonja was a keen and creative soul who lived in her garden, enjoyed floral art and Tai Chi.
Sonja will be sadly missed by her family, friends and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held at Simplicity Funerals Chapel, 69 Haven Road, Nelson, on Thursday, July 10, from 11.00am. Messages may be sent c/- Simplicity Funerals, PO Box 7103, Nelson.

Our Nana Sonja was always a kind soul. Loved picnics and would tell us all kinds of stories.
She always told me "Knowledge Is Power" and a lot of knowledge she's gathered over the years.
Her Legacy as a Poet surely is amazing. Our Ancestor's, The Pedersens were the first Norwegian Settlers of New Zealand circa 1872.

Deepest sympathy to all your families at this sad time. Our families were good friends and neighbours in Hill Street while the Pederson family were growing up. I remember Sonja with fond memories.
