On relocating to Nelson recently I went to my favourite Cobbler, Scott - the shop is gone. How unusual for a loyal customer to see Scott is not there, & gutting. Scott has been fixing, changing my shoes/boots for around 35 years. He would say 'no Sarah' and I would go back in to double check...'are you sure Scott'...It has been a bit of a giggle to say the least.
On popping in a couple of years ago after 10 years of not being around, I walk in that door and get 'Hey Sarah, great to see you' - Me - "Oh My goodness, you remember my name' -
Scott - 'How could I forget you'.
Today - I have just returned from Mr Minit to fix my shoe in Richmond where I spoke of my favourite Cobbler Scott. Mr Minit told me this dreadful news.
I had no idea Scott had passed and it is absolutely devastating this gentle, incredible, clever man is no longer on our planet.
My thoughts to you dear Scott, and your family.
I will miss our banter terribly as that is another big reason I would pop in and annoy you, hopefully it brightened up your day occasionally. If only I had mentioned this to you the last time I saw you which turns out, it was just before you left this place.
Much love - always
Sarah

Scott, I am so sorry to hear of your passing tonight. My heart hurts for you and your family. I loved walking up to topz to pick up the repairs when I worked at Taylor’s. You were always so kind and would have a laugh with me. I’m very sad.

Shocked and sad like so many here in Nelson.
We will miss your friendly warm presence and the feeling that this shop was a corner of our world that was how this world should be: Care, craftsmanship and trust.
A good man, go well!

I am so deeply saddened to hear of Scott's recent passing. Scott like his Dad before him was a fantastic craftsman and mended our families shoes and other leather items over the years. Scott was always kind, generous with his time, humble and always happy to converse with his customers. We had a fantastic conversation 4 years ago just prior to an amazing trip to Cuba. My utmost sympathies to Don, Maureen, Miranda, family and friends; may your love for each other and Scott carry you through your grief.

I am so saddened to hear of Scott's premature passing. i only ever knew Scott as a master craftsman who repaired our families shoes and leather bags/belts. Scott was consistently kind, generous to a fault, always up for a chat (we had a great conversation prior to a magical trip to Cuba), conversant in a wide range of topics/interests. Our sincere sympathies to Maureen, Don and families

Life as we know deals some cruel and terrible blows at times and this is one of those. I will miss the opportunity of not being able to have a chat when I would take my shoes in to be repaired. I hope Scott has found peace and my thoughts and sympathy to his family. Hold on to the beautiful memories that you have of him. Sending hugs, Erin

Some say that everyone should do something hard every day, so this is our hard thing for today. It is hard to acknowledge that our lovely New Zealand nephew is gone. It is hard to see Don and Maureen in such pain, and hard to hear of Mirandas distress. Our hearts are broken, not only for our own sense of loss, but for Scott's whole family. Scott was certainly loved and valued beyond measure- a loving son father grandfather husband, and unique craftsman also. The sense of loss and sadness falls heavily on his Aussie cousins as well. We send our love and deepest sympathy to everyone at this very sad and hard time. Rod and Deborah Cooroy Qld.

You will be missed more than you will ever know. Deepest sympathies to Maureen, Don, Miranda and your children. May you the bourbon be flowing where you are. You wont be forgotten. Love Camille

My deepest sympathy to Scott's family. I was a neighbour when the family lived in Weka St and never did know Scott's surname.... so my condolences are a bit belated. I'm sorry not to have been at Scott's farewell. In later years we met, not over the fence, but over shoes for repair, and he was always the same - friendly, helpful and on for a discussion about the ways of the world. My thoughts are with you all. Scott, you will be so sorely missed. A fabulous craftsman in your field...nothing was too much trouble, along with a chat and a smile.
Was picking up my shoes last Wednesday....we talked for at least 20mins about life and its hiccups...you told me what your attentions were for 2021. They were positive and smart. What have you done?!
Fly high, at peace, and will miss your presence Scotty....much love to your family.
