Peter MEFFAN Obituary
On March 25, 2016, aged 85. Treasured husband of Margaret, dearly loved father and father-in-law of Mary and Ben, Patrick and Wendy, Andrew and Shelley, Terry and Sumukhi and James and Tanea. A much loved grandfather to Juliet, David and Laura Ayre, Peter, Claude, Allister and Ricky Meffan, Max, Burty and Iris Meffan, Lilasara and Yadu-Vira Meffan and Pearl and Betty Chapman. Loved great-grandfather of Malachi Ayre.
A man of honour, drive
and great love.
A respected Nelson surgeon.
Peter's amazing life will be celebrated at Christ Church Cathedral, Wednesday, March 30, at 2.30pm.

Peter performed life saving surgery on me when I was just 2 days old, on March 1 1972, so it is fair to say that I owe my entire life to Peter and the team that assisted him that day. It had been a long held wish to meet Peter, and after being handed copies of Peter's original surgical notes last year I finally managed to track him down and thank him in person in January of this year. Peter welcomed me into his home and gave me a glimpse of his remarkable life - it was truly a pleasure and an honour to be able to shake Peter's hand and thank him in person. Our meeting was brief, but it was clear to see that he was a special man.

Peter Meffan saved my life. He was a surgeon of remarkable skill who was so kind and compassionate not just during the time that I was under his care but in the years afterwards. I have never experienced the level of care and concern from anyone in the medical profession that he gave me. Such a dear man. Bas Stevenson.
