When we moved to Wai-Iti in 2007 it didn't take long to get to know Pete. He was the go-to guy in the neighbourhood and the local currency for his favours was Speights.
Of course that all fell apart when he and a few others installed their own brewery, then the currency became manual labour. But that was all good because it was always followed with a pint or three of his tasty beverages.
Pete was the kind've guy you just wanted to be around. A great sense of humour and wit, his banter was second to none and all with that sly grin on his face.
Probably the hardest working man I've ever known, it was a pleasure to know him and I'm proud to have been Pete's friend.

I am so upset and so deeply sorry for the sudden and tragic loss of such a fun, great man !
I grew up in Wakefield and my sister, Sandy Tuck knows the family better than me.
I just remember him as such a warm, friendly, neat guy.
Lots of love to all the family !!!

Shocked and saddened to hear of Peter´s passing. We got to know him when he was drying Gingko for me and enjoyed a few totara brewery beers around the kiln. A real good bugger. Sorry I can´t make it to the funeral, but have been remembering some good times and thinking of him lately. Condolences to Peter´s family.

My name is Colin Baynes from Hawkes Bay .
I was fortunate enough rub shoulders, party, drink ,play rugby and get to know Peter in the 70's.
Peter was larger than life, a lot of fun to be around and just a good straight Kiwi bloke.
He will be missed by many.
Wishing family and friends all the best over these hard times.
