I just heard the sad news. What a lovely man Peter was. He treated me so kindly when I was small and again when we encountered each other years ago in Nelson. Condolences to you Margaret, Antoinette and Marta. Arohanui, Helen Best

It was a pleasure to have known Peter as a fine friend and shipmate. His vast knowledge of maritime interests social justice along with environmental concerns and being proud of his families achievements. He was the Totara of the family. fair winds and following seas until we meet again.

Our deepest sympathy to the Besier family. The links have fallen off over the years but we have never forgotten Peter. As a young man fresh from Holland he came and worked for our Dad on
our Methven farm for about two years, mid 50s.A hard worker and great company. We hold dear his memory. Love from the Sauer Family.

Peter was the best friend of my partner Hein Kolff. Our families were all close friends especially with Ma & Pa - Kes & Tora Kolff.Peter loved nature.Being a seaman, he was very protective of the ocean & he had an apple orchard & abundant garden in Lower Moutere from both of which he generously shared the produce.I shall miss our robust political debates, concern for future generations & his historical knowledge-international & local.
Veel liefs to family.
