Paul TAYLOR Obituary

TAYLOR, Dr Paul Gordon:
After an eventful and fascinating journey, Dr Paul Taylor passed away at home in Nelson early on Sunday, November 10, 2019. Born in 1945 on the Wirral Peninsula in England, Paul was lucky to experience and contribute to many communities around the world through his devoted work as a paediatrician, culminating at Nelson Hospital. Much loved husband and friend of Frances for 48 years, father of Angus and Damian, and treasured grandfather of Elvie, Alexander, Moses, and Delta. He was generously and capably supported in his last stages of life by wonderful friends and compassionate professionals to whom his family are deeply grateful. In particular Kerry, Sam, Lorraine, and everyone from Nurse Maude, and the Nelson Tasman Hospice for the invaluable service they provide. He would have been happy to know a donation to savethechildren.org.nz was made in his memory in lieu of flowers. A gathering to celebrate Paul's life will take place at Nelson Centre of Musical Arts, Nile Street, from 5.00 to 7.00pm TOMORROW (Thursday, November 14).

After these years gone by, I have just learnt of your passing, dear friend. It was a special time in my life to be your PA and the work you did with "your babies" was amazing. Your dedication and leadership were outstanding and it was a privilege to work for you at that time. My late husband Barry spent many happy hours crewing for you on Burglar too. Fly safely now, Jonathon Livingstone Seagull. Rest in peace.

We were saddened to hear of Paul's death and send our sympathy to Frances, Angus, and Damian, and their families. Frances and Paul were a wonderful couple who welcomed so many of us Canadians into their home in beautiful New Zealand. Their hospitality was wonderful and Tom and I were treated to many concerts and special events.

We met them in Montreal, on the Sunshine coast of BC, and at our home on Gabriola Island when they visited. We loved hearing their stories, and most of all hearing of how they loved and adored their children and Grandchildren. Paul always was upbeat and we enjoyed receiving his Christmas letter with pictures of the family. He was so proud of them, and especially of Frances, for her grace and many organizational talents. They were fast friends.

It's fitting that the memorial service will be in a concert hall. He and Frances loved music and it spilled over to those around them.

Sincerely, Tom and Charlotte Cameron

I know that my friend Judy Rundle (deceased) would want to acknowledge the wonderful care and support she and her family received from Paul. She never stopped talking about what a kind and compassionate man he was.
