Michael was always a sociable person right from the early days as I remember when our family lived further up the road in Mt. Pleasant Ave in the 1960's. I was about 10yrs old and 7 yrs younger than Michael at the time and yet he gave me my first ride on his motorbike around the block and up Russell Street. And this was no ordinary bike.....an Indian with big triangle leather seat on coil springs and a long car type gear lever that came up beside the petrol tank. The Indian always fascinated the local kids as they walked home after school as it was parked on the roadside next to his fathers Ford V8 Pilot car. Something I have never forgotten. R.I.P.

Sorry to hear about Michaels passing, he was such a nice guy.
Michael supported my master thesis at University of Canterbury when he was groundwater science manager at CRC. I will always be grateful to him for his support and enthusiasm. His contribution to improving the understanding of groundwater in Canterbury and Nelson cannot be understated.
Rest in peace and condolences to his family.

I was saddened to read that Michael passed away, I have many memories of fun times together as kids, floating down the Riwaka river on old tyres, family times in Mt Pleasant Ave. Our parents were good friends for so many years and us kids all got on well together. They were happy days. Treasure those memories. My deepest sympathy goes to you all along with my love to the family. Diane Mcleod

Michael was the man who gave me my first job. He leaves a legacy of supporting many many students to do post graduate study in groundwater science in Canterbury, that is not forgotten by any of us. We refer to his time as 'The Dicker Era'.
Michael was a lot of fun, he connected with people from all generations, and loved a good party. He had some very 'interesting' stories of things he got up to in his youth and beyond. We all enjoyed the stories of his entanglements with the milk man and the local council. At work he protected his staff from politics and let people thrive.
Seeing his name misspelt on this website reminds me of the story about how the printer did not have the letter K to emboss his name on his Masters thesis, so used an I and a C, leading to it reading 'Micheal Dicicer', something that annoyed him years later. I hope he is having a laugh about this one at least.
I last saw Michael over 5 years ago, the man who did not want children now surrounded by Barbara's extended family and obviously enjoying himself. Michael meant a lot to me, and I hope that his loved ones can reflect on the unique perspective he brought to life.
Much love,
