Both of us went to primary when he worked there. We both moved out of the school in 2019. Hearing the news that Mr B passed made us both tear up at the thought not thinking it was true, but we found out that it was and things just got really sad. Neither of us were in a class where he was the teacher but we saw him around the school, in assembly's and he taught our friends. He was the sweetest guy ever and we send our condolences.

'The person who can bring the spirit of laughter into a room is indeed blessed' Bennett Cerf... but I think we were the blessed ones. Thanks for the many many laughs Michael. I'm sad that I didn't get the chance to work with you in old Room 4 again. It would have been a lot of fun. Thinking of your family at this time xxx

Our thoughts are with all of Michael's family after this terrible news. Michael was such a fun flatmate back in the early '90's and left us with some lovely memories. Gone way too soon.

Words can not describe the sympathies that I have for Michaels family at this time. He taught me five years ago, and gosh that man has a big part of his school he worked at. You would always see him talking about the most random things with the students. His Art was also a big part of who he was as a teacher and that had a big impact on showing kids a different way and aspect of how to express your emotions.

Michael was always the light of the room, big conversation starter and always rocked around with his cool shoes! It was always a highlight getting to see the shoes he picked out for the day. Mr B just taught in a way that no one ever understood how he was so good. I remember the fights that were picked the day before we found out our classes because everyone wanted to enjoy the year with crazy ol Mr B. He was always just pretty much the Glue of the school and i know that it wont ever be the same way again.

Much sorrows and condolences for Michaels family and his work family

Mr B was my sons year 4 teacher in 2014, Michael taught a lot through art. Michael´s passion for Art spilled over and triggered my sons passion for art, my son has continued with his art throughout school life. Mr B was part of my sons journey to his chosen career path Bachelor of Animation at Yoobee creative arts college for 2024.
Thank you Mr B an inspiration.

Michael and I attended Christchurch teachers college together . The only reason for getting into teaching was that I had been taught by his mother Jo , hands down she was the most amazing and inspiring teacher I ever had . Just goes to show the apple never falls far from the tree . I´m so shattered to hear of his passing . My heart goes out to you Jo , Kirsty and Michael´s boys . Such a huge loss to you all . Heartfelt condolences. Jackie Crow and Michael Macmillan

Sending my thoughts and sympathy to Michael's family.I was fortunate to be a teaching colleague of Michael's and have to say he had a gift for easing tension, conflict or stress on the staff with a well timed wisecrack or joke.He was always aware of others and their needs, both adults and children. Michael's sudden passing will leave a massive hole not only in his whanau's lives but in the lives of his school community.Arohanui

So sorry to hear of Mr B's passing. He was an awesome teacher and I loved being in his class. I can still remember other kids being jealous of those of us in his class, and that speaks volumes of his ability to really connect with his students and how he made learning fun. No doubt he will be missed by many. Sending sincere condolences to the family.

Our two oldest boys were lucky enough to have Mr B as their teacher. He was kind, funny and had a great way of connecting with the children. He will be greatly missed at Enner Glynn and as Cooper said who will wear the fancy shoes now? Much love to his family.

Sending Michael's family all my condolences
I am beyond shocked to read this dreadful news.
What a huge gaping hole Michael will leave behind.
We have had the privilege of knowing Michael through school. My kids as students & myself as a parent. Michael was, hands down all 4 of my children's most favorite teacher ever. He was everything that makes for one of those teachers who stay in your hearts & minds forever. I was privileged to have been on multiple school camps with Michael & he was utterly BRILLIANT in all aspects.
Super inspiring, encouraging, engaging, charismatic, genuine, with a true passion for teaching. His banter was always on point & his dad jokes were the best. All the things that make for a legend of a teacher.
Thank you Michael for your input on my kids lives, they will carry it with them always.
With much respect we send our love to your family at this devastating time.

Michael, you were so loved by your friends and work mates. You were always there for me if I needed a good laugh or a rant. I loved your teaching style, as did the many children you taught. They all wanted to be in Mr Bs class. This is still so unreal, you've left a huge hole in our community.
Love always
