Mike was a wonderful friend: gracious and helpful and always willing to go the second mile. As you got to know him you realised that he was a man of considerable intellect and wide ranging knowledge. He never stopped seeking to master new areas and he was always so willing to share his knowledge and expertise. He taught us so much about diving, tropical fish, African birds and so on, I could list many more. Mike was so resourceful. You felt much better to have him around.
Mike was always seeking to make the world a better place. We can see this in the way, that after he had finished his employment what sorry coming in PNG he went back to run schools for small scale miners to make their work both more efficient and safer. This was done, often under great difficulty.
The world will be a poorer place for his passing and many people and groups will miss him greatly as we will.
