I will always remember Mrs Marama as my first English tutor when our family moved to the Gold Coast from Taiwan in 1989. I was 11 at that time and knew very little of English. I had a wonderful memory including her husband Bert who sometimes played pieces of music on his piano while I was at their home for English lessons.

Dear Marama. When I was starting out as an announcer in Wellington in 1970 Marama was such a support. She was so wise and understanding and seemed to be able to cope with anything. I caught up with her and Bert when they lived in Australia before they came back to New Zealand. This news was a take-my-breath-away moment. RIP Marama. Bert, my condolences to you and the family.

Marama and I were close friends for many years, especially when we not only flatted together but appeared on WNTV1 - in the olden days! She was a very warm, caring and charming woman and she and Bert made a great couple.\
Unfortunately as happens, we had lost touch over recent years but she will forever live in my heart as one very Special person who has left me with many happy memories. God Bless Marama
