As an ex black hatter of Dunedin in the 1960s and early 70s I remember John fondly. Those days in 2 Recce Sqn and 2 Scots were great fun.
I still don't know how he got his large frame into the turret of an M113 armoured personnel carrier!
I haven't had contact with John in the past 50 years, but have happy memories of our time together in 2 Scots My thoughts are with you Helen and all the family,

Deepest sympathy to Helen and family. John was a well-loved Army Officer. We both came from Dunedin, and both have been awarded the Efficiency Decoration for conspicuous military service. I accompanied John on TLX84 (RIMPAK) in Hawaii. I will miss his pleasant and happy demeanour.

I remember how glad I was to learn John was a fellow Armour officer when we met for the first time in Damascus
