My deepest sympathy to John´s family and friends.
I sailed with John in the Rakaia in 1960 and only recently did we meet up again to re-live old times. So sad to have a renewed friendship so suddenly ended.

I send my deepest sympathy to John's family and loved ones on his untimely passing. We were fellow cadets on NZSCo ship Rakaia for three years from1960 and shared lots of good times. I will always remember a young man with an infectious smile. RIP my friend.

Sincere sympathy to all of John´s loved ones. I saw John every day for almost six years at Sealord, a lovely man ready with a joke or a kind word, and in later years a big hug and a good catch-up when we ran into each other in town. Rest easy Cap´n Ayers.

My thoughts are with his family at this time . I worked beside John at Sealord's for many years and will never forget the great times we shared together. Very sad news!
He was a GREAT manager and mentor.

To the Family and friends of John please accept my condolences at the time of his passing. Both John and I were fellow cadets with the New Zealand Shipping Company Ltd. John served his cadetship time on the "Rakaia" and myself on the "Durham". John was a

AYERS, John:
Dearly loved partner of Isla Lewis.
Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near, always loved and very dear.
Life is short – spend it with people who make you laugh and feel loved.
"Be at peace my lovely friend"
