I had the honour and pleasure of working with Jeff Langley during my tour of duty as Egypt's Ambassador to New Zealand from 2013 to 2015 when Jeff was The Director of the Middle East and Africa Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
Jeff was not only a very distinguished diplomat but he was also a very kind and extremely helpful human being. He served New Zealand with the highest degrees of sincerity and dedication. He also represented New Zealand with distinction.
Jeff Langley worked with his colleagues whether from New Zealand or from other countries, including myself, with the highest standards of professionalism and friendship. While working with Jeff, I always felt that he was a dear colleague, friend and brother.
As a result of his high calibre diplomatic skills and his hard work, Jeff was promoted to the position of Deputy Secretary at MFAT.
The last time I met Jeff was during his visit to Cairo in January 2016.
I am deeply saddened by the death of Jeff Langley following his illness.
I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to Jeff's family, friends and colleagues.
May Almighty God Bless The Soul of Jeff Langley and Bring Comfort to His Family and Loved ones.
Mahmoud Zayed.

I was Jeff's form teacher and English teacher in 1985 (6SN). He was also in the 1st Eleven hockey team, which I managed. Jeff's wit and all-round 'goodguyness' is something I have remembered vividly. When my daughter was born late that year, he presented me with, on behalf of the class, his poem:
A Skilton English teacher
Gives wise counsel that's first hand
To pupils who must sit the cert
Up and down the land.
For Clive has learnt a lesson
He's sure he will remember:
Playing around in February
Makes for hard work in November.
Fly well, Jeff.

So sorry to hear of Jeff's death. I was Australian High Commissioner in Wellington from 2012 to 2016 and for much of that period I worked closely with Jeff as he was Director of MFAT's Australia Division. He was wonderful to deal with - straight, helpful and with a dry sense of humour. He left us far too early. Vale, Jeff.

I worked with Jeff for 3 years when we established our Embassy in Brasilia. We had some of the best laughs ever. My heart goes out to Sarah, Patrick, Thomas and Juliette. I am so sad and can't quite believe that Jeff has left us.

As a former colleague of Jeff's who also served in Vanuatu I'm very sad to hear of this untimely passing. Jeff was a fine man, a true professional with a good sense of humour. He will be sorely missed by those who worked beside him and al those who knew him.
RIP Jeff

Jeff will always be in my memories with his great spirit and his unique sense of humor. I can still hear his perfect Portuguese when remembering the time he spent in Brazil nearly 20 years ago. Lots of love and hope to Sarah, Patrick, Thomas and Julliett.
