Hi Marissa,

This is Monti, Sammy's daughter. Mum and I have been looking for you and don't know how to get a hold of you.

After many years I found this. I am so sorry, my heart breaks. I wish we could have been there.

If you can send me an email I would love to put you and mum back in touch. You can find me on Facebook to message me please!

Much love and hoping to hear from you.
Monti

Dear Marissa,

I was very sorry to hear that Ian has died. I hope you are ok and have your family around to help you at this difficult time. I met Ian in Bangkok in 1977 and enjoyed many happy times with him at his John Schott restaurant near ESCAP. Our companions there were Charles Draper and Sammy Samuel.

It is many years since I met Ian's daughters, but please pass on my condolences and tell them I remember the day we sailed to the turtle island and swam ashore with whiskey for the guards on the beach.

Ian's contributions to economics and development will be remembered by many across Asia, but my memories of Ian will be his love of rugby and sitting one evening overlooking the Straits of Malacca, eating chilli crab and downing many cold beers.

Take care Marissa,

Barry
