Ian HAMPTON Obituary

I am very sad to learn of Ian´s passing. A very loyal and long friend. He was loyal in sport and in business, always giving sage advice. RIP to a great guy.

Only found out today through an old schoolmate Nolan Duff that Ian had passed. Wondered why he wasn't getting his pork sandwich from the bakery like the last 2 times we chatted. A delightful man who cared about people more than sport and that's saying a lot. Always remembered every detail of our previous conversations which is a sign of genuine engagement. A founding Nelson Bays rugby coach told me is greatest frustration was not being able to convince the best No. 10 in the region to play more rugby. I will miss you Ian and your family have been blessed to have you.

Our sincere condolences to you all. It us never easy to lay a loved one to rest.

Ian was at first a cricketer friend of my husband Michael in the 1960s and then became, with Anne and the children, a family friend we admired deeply. The boys and I in Melbourne send our love to all the family and are thankful that Ian was in our lives.

So sorry to hear of Ian's passing. It was so nice to catch up with you both at the Hampton cousins reunion in Charleston a couple of years ago. RIP Ian.
