Auntie Heather has always been a central figure in my life, and will remain so. She was a loving presence throughout my childhood. That said, she accepted no nonsense and had clear expectations about behaviour!
In later life, I came to better appreciate her shrewd understanding and wry Lankow sense of humour, where so much is left unsaid but fully understood. It was always great to catch up with her when she came to Australia and when I visited Nelson.
Heather and I had a wonderful time in 2018, driving from Nelson through Blenheim and down the Kaikoura coast to stay with Perine and Laurie in Christchurch. Heather's anecdotes about the places we passed, and the people who had lived there, brought our family history to life even more vividly that her written works on the Lankows and farming. I gained a new insight into her younger days and what her life then was like.
Heather lived a grand life and I feel lucky to have been part of it. My husband John feels the same way.

To Heather's family - on behalf of our group of Wednesday morning Petanque players, please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of a lovely lady. We all very much enjoyed the time that Heather played over the years and it was a happy time to catch up with her when she came to our get-together in January. Heather will be very much missed by many.
