Guy was a South Island regional manager in 1988 when Dept of Labour staff all quite unexpectedly lost their positions due to Rogernomics. He was re-appointed to a senior position and dedicatedly applied himself to ensure all those many staff under his care were treated with absolute fairness and with neither fear nor favour. He was an outstanding human being.

My experience with Guy was work related and rather brief.
I was losing my job and he stood by me
Guy Brownie and I and the branch managers did stuff !
Over the West Coast he left his room for the morning newspaper and the door closed. Wore a pot plant to reception. Classic
No sweat, kind and competent
A leader that helped me and others and had integrity honesty loyalty and care always. Driven by respected values. A decent person I won´t forget

Guy (Gaetano) was also father to Gail Romano and Beth Romano from his 1st marriage to Maude (deceased). And grandfather to Jessica, Amy, Joshua, Carla and Antony. While he was regrettably not able to be a father or grandfather to us, his death is still lamented. And the photos and memories of the times that we did spend together will be always treasured. Rest in peace.

District Superintendent at the Labour Dept Nelson - an extremely nice caring gentleman who would go round each persons desk on work mornings tap the desk and greet us by name, a personal and very special touch I will always remember. My thoughts go out to the family.

I knew Guy from his time with Star-United Rugby club in Greymouth. He was a great club man and also with the Blaketown club. I am sure he will be deeply missed by all. RIP Colin & Bronwen Skates
