Giuseppe (Joe):
Peacefully in his own home on Thursday, February 3, 2022; aged 95 years. Dearly loved husband of the late Maria Liberata. Cherished father of Maria and Paul Elenio, Rosanna and Craig (dec) Martin, Michael and Debbie Lagrutta, Francis Lagrutta and Victoria Fisher. Much loved nonno (grandfather) of Peter and Raphael, Teresa, Jessica, Abigail (dec), Sofia and James, Sam, Giovanna, Giuseppe and Leah, and Matthew, and great-grandfather of Addison, extended family of Emma and Sarah. The Lagrutta family wish to express their gratitude to the staff of Nelson Tasman Hospice and the Nelson East Medical Centre for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Joe and his family. In lieu of flowers donations to the Nelson Tasman Hospice Trust would be gratefully appreciated and may be made at the service or at www.nelsonhospice.org.nz/donations A Requiem Mass for Joe will be celebrated at St Mary's Catholic Church, Manuka Street, Nelson, on Wednesday, February 9, at 11.00am followed by interment at Marsden Valley Cemetery. Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions a limit of 100 people applies. To confirm attendance please email

The service will be live-streamed for those unable to attend - to obtain these details please make contact through the details above. The Rosary will be recited at St Mary's Catholic Church, on Tuesday, February 8, at 7.30pm. A memorial service for Joe will be held in Wellington details to be advised. Joe was a life-long friend of my Dad, Pat, and I have very fond memories of their long discussions, and Joe always finishing the conversation by saying "that is life". Joe leaves a big gap in our Italian community and will be sadly missed by everyone.
