Antarctic explorer and surveyor. Died peacefully at his home in Nelson, surrounded by family, aged 91. Beloved husband of the late Joy; father of Peter, Timothy, John, and Catherine; grandfather of Ruby, Holly, and Ryan; great-grandfather of Luca; great friend of Dave. A Requiem Mass for Brian will be celebrated at St Mary's Catholic Church, Manuka St, Nelson on Monday, January 11, at 11.00am.

Only good memories of Fitz - always a smile and a joke, often against himself.
Meeting him for the first time as a newly graduating surveyor, his first words were - "get out while you can". Then went on to help me all he could to settle in.
Recently saw Brian again, buying his Lotto at Milton St, telling me about his speech as a guest at the old Antarctic Surveyors dinner. Always a gentleman.
