Eric and I studied together at NMIT on the Bachelors degree. I remember Eric as a very proud, humble, gentle Maori man, he had a very calm and respectful presence, a very special man. I was very fond of Eric. I recall a social gathering we organised for our peers at NMIT, we all went to Kaiteriteri beach for lunch, Eric took groups of us out in a waka, he had a respectful way of sharing the culture of the waka with us in a way that was both fun and inclusive. My deepest sympathies go to his whanau, this is a huge, shocking loss for you all, he was such a gifted man, I feel very fortunate to have called him a friend. I am currently traveling in Vietnam, otherwise I would definatly attend his service to pass on my sympathy to Erics whanau.
