To Owen and family
I was saddened to learn of Doreen's passing, while not unexpected and I am so glad I and wee Lola dog spent time with her not long ago. I have memories of meeting Doreen many years ago at Nayland College, to me she was a statuesque dignified lady who managed to appear calm when organizing all the 'night classes' as they were called then. We visited Totara Ave and wished our exercise sessions together, encouraging Owen when she thought he should come! Losing a mother is hard, but of course they are always with you. Sending hugs.

As a new entrant at Stoke School, senior student Doreen came and showed me around, reassuring me that school was not as scary a place as I feared! To me, Doreen personified kindness.

Sending love and condolences to you all. I have great memories of my guitar lessons with Doreen and Girls Brigade of course - a lot of great memories associated with the latter. A great person to have in your life.

Sending condolences and love to the Bateup family at this difficult time. I have been lucky to know Doreen since I was a junior in Girls Brigade and have so many wonderful memories over the years. Doreen was also a lovely friend to my mother, Heather, and it was always nice to see her when I was back in Nelson. She will be sadly missed by all.
