Peacefully at home on August 22, 2016, aged 80 years. Dearly loved husband of Margaret; father and father-in-law of Andrew and Martina, Clare and Martin Holtham, Frances and Dave Stephens, Paul and Jo, Lisa, Jamie and Jen; grandfather of Sarah, Conor, Ciara; Benjamin, Ryan, Jeremy, Campbell; Simon, Amanda and John, Megan; Max, Olive; Jack, James, Charlie; and Jonah, and great-grandfather of Laurence and Olivia; brother and brother-in-law of Cameron and Frances, Bruce and Andrea, Marie and Graham Byrnes; Terence Brady, Fr. Patrick Brady. In lieu of flowers, donations to either Te Omanga Hospice or Wellington Free Ambulance would be appreciated, and may be left at the service. Requiem Mass will be celebrated in Ss Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Knights Rd, Lower Hutt, on Monday, August 29, at 11.00am, followed by interment at Akatarawa. A Vigil service will be held in the above church on Sunday evening (August 28), at 7.00pm.

I served under Gen. McIver at the MFO as a Civilian Observer. Throughout his tenure, he was both an exemplary commander and a welcome presence. My thoughts go out to Margaret and the rest of his family.
