My thoughts are with you Barbara, Kate and Rebecca after hearing of Dave's passing. A highly respected boss, both in the office and toiling in the field. He leaves me with fond memories searching for Takahe in the Murchison Mountains, and various trips in Fiordland. A man to look up to.

Am very sorry to hear of Dave's passing.I spent a lot of work time in the Kaimanawas with Dave in the latter days of the NZ Forest Service and the first year of DOC.He was extremely fit and enthusiastic and even today, stands out for me as the best boss I ever had.
I wish I could have been there today to relate a couple of very funny tales I have from hills trips with Dave.

Memories remain of some great and crazy times on the way to adulthood. Holidays at Whangamata, Hot Pools at Taupo, Matamata and Awakeri. Pubs, pubs and more pubs. Crown tops and quart bottles. Then there was your 'short hike' into the Kawekas with your Mum and Dad that took hours (and none of us were slow. Those were the days which we negotiated safely together. Thanks Dave. To Barbara, Kate, Rebecca and family, our deepest sympathy.
