It was with considerable shock that I heard of Charlies passing, and thank you to those who passed on the message. I cannot think of Nelson without thinking of Charlie. He was the rock' of Nelson in terms of sport and not just rugby in the 50s 60s and 70s when I was there. He was not much older than I was but he coached me from the lower grades to Nelson Bays.

My condolences and best wishes to Josie and family.

I sat next to Charlie on a flight from Brisbane to Auckland and on to Nelson a couple of years ago . We got chatting and it transpired he knew my parents ,Leslie and John Hubber from way back in their early days. He had so many stories to tell and was such a lovely man ,it was the best flight to Nelson I've ever had .. And often think of him .. To his family my deepest sympathy for your loss and I know how difficult it is as I just lost my Dad 3 weeks ago ..

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Charlie's passing, we were only talking earlier in the week. When dad passed away Charlie's phone calls kept me entertained, and a connection to dad. His dedication to the Nelson region, his passion for sports and a friend to many around the country. I will miss our talks, miss you Charles T,
