Mr. Billy Wayne Herring, 74, husband of Lou Ray Herring, of Mullins, went to be with his Lord, during the early hours of Monday, September 30, 2024, at his home with his family surrounding him, following an extended period of declining health, under the care of Cresent Hospice.
Billy, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, was born in Mullins, South Carolina on April 20, 1950, a son of the late James William Graham and the late Bessie Richardson. Billy grew up in the Mullins community, he was raised by his grandparents, the late Mr. Miles and Mrs. Janie Herring. Billy joined the Mullins Fire Department at the age of 18. He worked from 1968 until his health began to decline and had to retire. During this time, Billy met Lou, and they married and started their family together. Billy helped Lou’s father, Mr. James Ray, with his Carpentry work throughout the years as well. Billy loved his grandchildren and loved spending time with them. Having his family together brought him much joy. When Billy had free time, he loved to go fishing, watch NASCAR on Sundays, and loved watching FOX News daily. Billy was a member of Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church and loved serving his community over the past decades.
In addition to his devoted wife of the home, Lou Ray Herring, Billy is survived by his two loving daughters: Erica Cook of Georgetown and Paige Herring of Mullins; his precious grandchildren: Mackenzie Cook (fiancé, Hunter Rogers), Ethan Cook, David Cook, and H.J. Rogers; his siblings: Rosemary Kling, Ginger (Bob) Morgan, Jerry (Martha) Jackson, Carolyn (Waine) Jernigan, Melanie (Robbin) Bruce, Bonnie (Kerry) Tanner, and Paul (Arnette) Graham; his siblings-in-law: Joseph Ray, Brenda Hattaway, Pat (Jerry) Altman, and Dean (Cathy) Ray; two special friends Billy considered family: Tony Rabon and Teddy Rabon and families; along with several nieces, nephews, friends, and fire department buddies.
The family will hold a visitation Friday, October 4, from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M., at the graveside in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mullins.
A graveside service for Mr. Billy will follow at 4:00 P.M., with the Reverend Thad Jacobs and Reverend Teddy Rabon officiating, and Cox-Collins Funeral Home assisting the family.
A guestbook for Mr. Hering is available on our website and our Facebook page for kind words for the family.

I'm sorry for the loss of Billy. I didn't find out about the passing until just recently. He was a very sweet and kind person. We didn't get to see each other growing up much but we were aware of who Billy was. Then as we grow up and our family pass away we lose touch with the family...
