She was from Southland New Zealand .She met an Englishman named Harry Osborn and eventually moved to Kent England where Barry was born. Their marriage broke up, her and the 2 boys moved back to New Zealand. Barry was around 5 yrs at the time this was around the end of the second world war.
As a young lad Barry and his cousin Graham Gibson were known as the terrors of Lumsden (Quote from anonymous family source) They had a horse named Peter and cart that they were not shy of taking anywhere for any reason.
Barry attended John McGlashan College Dunedin. He took up Golf and played well enough to know many of the top South Island Golfers of the day .
Barry-Jon met and Married Elwyn Margaret Bethell . Barry and Elwyn had 3 children 2 boys and a daughter. The eldest, Jason-Jon middle Timothy-Jon and Megan Elsbeth the youngest. Barry and his family lived in Dunedin , late 60s Christchurch early 70s then around 1974 they moved to Waimate where they Bought the Reliance Garage , This was a Europa Full service station with 2 mechanics.
The service station was sold 1978 and the family moved to Nelson district Gowan Valley where they had a farm closest town Murchison.
After selling the Gowan Valley Property Barry and the Family moved to the Dove Dale Valley closer to Nelson City.
At the end of 1983 Barry's marriage broke up, Elwyn and the children moved to the North Island.
Barry looked after his mother Elizabeth at this time until her death in Late 1984. He continued to live in Nelson Playing Golf and working in various roles.
The original 2 dollar jet setter Barry would visit his grandchildren in Auckland, Hawks Bay, and Australia with his new partner Katie. He loved nothing better than getting in his car and going look about stopping for a beer here and a look there never in a hurry content to sit in the warm sun and enjoy whoever was with him.
Ill health stopped Barry in late 2013 and after an operation in Nelson Hospital suffered a clot to the brain. This left him with stroke induced dementia, he spent until 23 May 2016 in Tasman rest home .
Barry like all had made his fair share of mistakes and misgiving's but even with the instant dementia thrust on him buy the stroke he never forgot his family and friends and loved all of you.
