Barrie MORAN Obituary

I first meet Barrie at RNZAF Base Wigram, when I was a student pilot on Nr 771 Aircrew course in September, 1971 and he was my instructor on Harvards. On 19 October, 1971, he was brave enough to send me solo, and that moment is firmly etched in my mind. All pilots have a connection because of the shared love of flying, but the instructor/pupil relationship is special. Barrie showed me his skilful, caring, and very professional approach to instruction, and aviation in general, which I endeavoured to emulate. We crossed paths as colleagues many times while flying for Air New Zealand, and I was really saddened to learn of his death recently. My condolences to all Barrie´s family at this time.

Kind, generous, funny and interesting and knew how to fly anything from a Harvard and C130 Hercules to a 777. A very cool man. He will be missed.

Barrie and I joined the RNZAF together, shared a room in the Student Officers Mess, and graduated together having had a lot of fun and laughter along the way. I was fortunate to have been taught by his father Paddy at Nelson Intermediate......another fine gentleman. My deepest condolences to Carlene and family.

Barrie and his wife Carlene were our neighbours in Colmar Lane, in Mellons Bay, Auckland, for a number of years. We found him to be a most pleasant man who was always williing to help in any way, when needed. We sincerely hope they enjoyed the years that they had together in Nelson and send our condolences to Carlene and the family. Barrie will be very much missed. Fly free Barrie,

Dear Carlene, We were so sorry to hear of Barrie's passing. Our thoughts went back to the happy times we spent at Wigram and Whenuapai early in our careers. Very sad to hear of Barrie's passing, we went back a long way, RNZAF and the airline with some very fond memories. Carlene and family you have me deepest sympathy.

I am saddened to learn of Barries' passing. Barrie was our first officer on that fateful F27 flight which crashed in Manukau Harbour 17 February 1979. I met up with him many times over the years at outstations while an engineer for Air NZ, HAECO, Hong Kong, and ATS, Nadi.

Fionnuala, myself and our whole family here in England are desperately saddened to hear of Barrie´s passing. The obituary above is so accurate, vibrant, enthusiastic, adventurous with a kindness, generosity and loyalty to his friends.
Our lives are diminished by his passing but enhanced by our memories of time spent with Barrie and Carlene.

I am very shocked and sad with Barrie's passing and for Carlene, Dana, Jody and the family.
Reconnected with Barrie, after they settled back in Nelson and we went back a long way to the RNZAF, not to mention camping, trout fishing and sailing yachts.
Carlene, I am away shortly but will make contact on return in early March.
