An old friend from police days in Christchurch. Arthur and I did some serious tramping in the Southern Alps in the mid 70´s . He was exceptionally fit and a good companion in the mountains. We did many Main Divide crossings in all seasons and I have many fond memories of those days. One notable trip we did was 16 hour 50 minute fast tramp over the 3 passes from Klondyke corner (ex west coast rail car at 0400) and the Kanieri Bridge in boots packs and light gear. I am glad I saw Arthur and Yvonne fairly recently (2 yrs) for dinner in Nelson. A good man, may he rest in peace.

Sorry to hear of Arthurs passing. He was a patient of mine many years ago and was very keen to get well. He was a real gentleman and contributed much to the community. Condolences to family.
A life well spent.
