can you remember me i was the bass player in the same band as andrew' james thomson soul band.i also helped you both with your first house in gy.then you moved to a flat on grimsby rd.have some photos of you all with the girls when they were small & also grown up.only found out about andrew passing away was trying to get in touch with him.sorry for your loss.time is the worst enamy.hope i havent upset any one by this email.take care all of you b safe viv.

I saw his Antarctica Expedition Documentary where he captained Tangaroa VIVa Vessel with Expedition Leader Michelle.
His leadership personality really impressed me. May his Soul rest in peace.

Fond memories of being in my late teens and Andrew taking me through his extensive vinyl collection and introducing me to the Jazz Greats Ella, Billy and Koko Taylor and choosing songs, he thought would suit my voice.. then learning the songs and going to the Nelly for Wednesday Jazz ( Hotel Nelson) long before I was allowed in a pub .. In the oceanographic community, we remember Andrew: big, bearded and loud, and deeply dedicated to science and the welfare of our oceans. Thanks Andrew.

So sad to hear about Andrew. He has an enormous legacy in terms of NZ fisheries and oceanographic research. Best wishes.

Oh Viv- so sad to hear of Andrew's death. He was larger than life, wasn't he- so many talents and enthusiasms, such a great belly-laugh, so widely travelled, such a huge store of knowledge and anecdotes - and he's had you by his side for so many years. I feel your heartbreak at this time and feel so privileged to be part of your family. I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss that cheeky man and feel so grateful to have spent a day with him recently. I will cherish that final dinner with him forever. He watched on adoringly as you all conversed and we shared a glass of wine. As he left I gave him a hug and he said night night Smiles. Well it's my turn to reluctantly say night night to you dear Andrew. You will be sorely missed.

We will always remember his joy of life and remember when you both joined the Nelson Underwater Club, and spent time as committee members and on dive trips.

Unfortunately we lost contact with you both over the years but now and again we would meet up and Andrew always had that grin.

I speak for the rest of my family who have very fond memories of Andrew and are sorry to hear of his passing.

A true gentleman, and the finest of mariners. Privileged to spend 2 weeks hearing his stories in Buenos Aires in 2006. We kept in touch through social media and compared Antarctica tales. My thoughts go out to you all at this difficult time.

We were very sad to hear the news down here in Karitane. We had always hope that both Andrew and Viv would get down for a visit it just wasn't to be but there is always a bed with your name on it Viv.
