Alan once shook hands with the Sultan of Brunei who was the richest man in the world at the time.
He used to go outside with a spray can of Roundup and say to Joan " I'm going out to do some gardening "
Alan, me and Murray Greefield sang the Andy Stewart song "Donald where's your troosers ? " dressed up as Scotsmen ( Kilts ! )
I sang "I'm forever blowing bubbles" and half-way thru Alan and Joan blew soap bubbles over the audience from either side
I sang "Send me the pillow that you dream on" and half-way thru they started throwing pillows and cushions at me ( the piano player as well ! )

I work at Nelson Library and Alan visited us often at our Tahuna Branch. I really enjoyed chatting with him and hearing about his grandkids in Australia. I could tell he really adored his kids and grandchildren and was so happy that he got to go to Australia to visit (I think that was a year of so ago). He was very self possessed and funny. We had many interesting chats. I will miss him and I am very sorry for your loss.
