EDGAR, Sir Eion Sinclair:
Peacefully on Monday, June 14, 2021. Eion passed away at home in Queenstown with his family by his side. An inspirational and generous man who is respected by many and will be missed by all. Eion leaves a huge legacy. A celebration of Eion's life will be held at the Queenstown Events Centre, Frankton, Queenstown on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 2.30pm. Limited parking available – if possible, please make alternative transport arrangements. In lieu of flowers a donation to Wakatipu Trails Trust, an organisation close to the family's heart, would be appreciated. https://queenstowntrail.co.nz/get-involved/become-a-friend/

I went to school with Eion at John McGlashan College in Dunedin. What I remember most is his smile, love of sports and his enthusiasm. He had an uncanny ability to organise people/ events - but what made him so special was that he carried the people with him and seemed too always do so. Eion was always contactable and happy to hear from and of you and your family. You always you knew you had his friendship.
At his memorial service one of his planned food choices was - Toasted cheese rolls. Eion stipulated the precise recipe, where to get the white bread and named the specific ingredients. To ensure it would be perfect he arranged a taster' to tatse a sample. Brings a smile to my face.

I met Sir Elon both in connection with his activities as Chancellor of Otag
University and as a result of his contributions to the Arts Foundation. He
was a most effective Chancellor and always just a great guy to meet. He is greatly missed by all his friends.

Eion and I were prefects together at John McGlashan and he was universally liked as a most agreeable person and a first class sportsman. I was sorry to have met him so seldom in recent years, but it was a standing joke between us that I'd started high school a year behind him and finished a year ahead. He even made a point, at the height of his fame, of introducing me to several captains of industry and prominent people as 'my head prefect' though his career far outstripped mine. As soon as he got to University he took off like a rocket and lived the most wonderful, successful, generous life. A thorough gentleman and genuinely good person who deserved everything he ever succeeded in. We're all the better off for having been his friends. Great sympathy to his well loved family.

Sir Eion, you were a most generous and welcoming man - a fine leader. You were also very busy - but never so busy as to make us believe you weren't there solely for us.

Thank you for all your hard work towards the Diabetes cause for which you gave unflinchingly. Your memory will live on amongst all people with diabetes in New Zealand. A job well done.

Our sincere condolences to you Jan and the family. The pain of your loss will not diminish but Eion will forever be a regular feature of the cinema in your minds.
Likewise he will be an enduring memory in the minds of those he touched. Generous to a fault, warm smile, genuinely asking 'how you were doing' and proffering wise advice (albeit not always on request).
It was a privilege to enjoy a business relationship and fellowship with Eion.
